Stanford Graduation Descends Into Chaos as Students Stage Mass Walkout on Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s Commencement Speech (VIDEO)

Over 100 Stanford graduates walked out during Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s address.
More than 100 Stanford University graduates walked out of their commencement ceremony on Sunday to protest Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Videos posted on social media showed students leaving their seats at Stanford Stadium while chanting “Free, free Palestine.”
Others booed and shouted “shame on you” as Pichai addressed the crowd.
The protest was organized by groups including Students for Justice in Palestine and No Tech for Apartheid.
Pichai, a Stanford alumnus who earned a master’s degree in materials science and engineering in 1995, was selected earlier this year to deliver the keynote address at the university’s 135th commencement ceremony.

Many of the protesting graduates carried Palestinian flags as they exited the stadium, turning what is traditionally one of the university’s most celebratory events into a political demonstration.
The protest centered on Google’s involvement in Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion cloud computing and artificial intelligence contract jointly held with Amazon that provides services to the Israeli government.

Activists argue the technology could be used by Israeli military and security agencies. Google has repeatedly denied the claims and maintains the contract only provides government cloud services.
The dispute has long generated controversy inside the company, particularly among its aggressively left-wing employees.
In 2024, Google fired dozens of employees following sit-ins and demonstrations at company offices in California and New York over Project Nimbus and Google’s ties to Israel.
Sunday’s disruption is the latest example of graduates using commencement ceremonies to protest invited speakers rather than celebrate graduation.
Similar scenes have unfolded at universities across the country this year, with speakers facing demonstrations over political views, corporate affiliations, artificial intelligence, and Middle East policy.
Despite the walkout, Pichai continued with his remarks.
His speech focused largely on optimism, change, and the challenges facing graduates entering an uncertain world.
He largely avoided discussing artificial intelligence, Israel, or the ongoing controversy surrounding Project Nimbus.
The Google chief urged graduates to remain optimistic as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
