WATCH: SPLC President Humiliated as Room Erupts in Laughter After Chip Roy Exposes Far-Left Group’s Blatant Bias and Massive Blind Spot on Islamic Extremism
The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Interim President and CEO Bryan Fair got absolutely torched during today’s House Judiciary Committee hearing titled “The Southern Poverty Law Center: Manufacturing Hate, Part II.”
As The Gateway Pundit has extensively reported for months, the SPLC has been under federal indictment since April 2026 on charges including wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering tied to paying over $3 million to informants embedded in so-called “hate groups.”
The group sits on an $800+ million endowment while continuing to label mainstream Christian and conservative organizations as extremists on its infamous “hate map.” FBI Director Kash Patel already severed all ties with the SPLC, calling it a “partisan smear machine.”
Today’s hearing made that crystal clear.
Roy opened by reminding Fair of the 2012 shooting attack on the Family Research Council headquarters, where a gunman wounded a security guard after the SPLC had placed FRC on its “hate map.”
The hearing took a dramatic turn when Roy began questioning Fair about apparent inconsistencies in the SPLC’s methodology.
According to Roy, the SPLC previously defended its decision to classify the Family Research Council by contrasting it with groups such as Focus on the Family, which were not listed. Roy noted that the language had since disappeared and that Focus on the Family is now also categorized by the organization.
But the most devastating moment came when Roy repeatedly challenged Fair to identify left-wing anti-Semitic groups or Islamic extremist organizations listed on the SPLC’s hate map.
Chip Roy: In 2012, the Family Research Council was attacked, and the guard at the front of the building was shot. The head of the Family Research Council, Tony Perkins, made note at the time of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s involvement in putting the Family Research Council on its so-called “hate map.” Has the SPLC ever acknowledged that its designation contributed to that attack?
Bryan Fair: Congressman Roy—
Chip Roy: Yes or no?
Bryan Fair: I can’t answer that question with a yes or no. You asked me if I—
Chip Roy: Did they retract, correct, or reconsider the listing of the Family Research Council on its hate map?
Bryan Fair: The Family Research Council is listed on our hate map because it meets the criteria.
Chip Roy: To this day, you continue to keep the Family Research Council on its hate map. Is that true?
Bryan Fair: The Family Research Council remains on the hate map because it meets the criteria that we use for—
Chip Roy: Which criteria?
Bryan Fair: The Family Research Council is an anti-LGBTQ—
Chip Roy: Okay, so on your website, you used to have language defending your position on the Family Research Council, and you had language saying that other groups, like Focus on the Family, were not included, and you used that as your defense. Well, that language is now gone, and Focus on the Family is now noted as a hate group. Can you explain that?
Bryan Fair: Congressman Roy, we take no pleasure in listing any group, and we wish the list was empty. But we have the constitutional right to express our opinion—
Chip Roy: How many leftist, anti-Jewish groups do you have listed on your website?
Bryan Fair: We—
Chip Roy: Name them.
Bryan Fair: Anyone listening to this can go to our website and see our—again, our Year in Hate and Extremism report was released this morning.
Chip Roy: How many extremist Islamic groups do you have among the 1,500 or so organizations you have on your hate map?
Bryan Fair: Again, anyone can go to our website.
Chip Roy: My office has been looking over it, and we can’t really find one.
Bryan Fair: Again, it is the SPLC’s—
Chip Roy: Do you think the SPLC could provide us a list of the Islamic-oriented groups you have on your hate map?
Bryan Fair: Mr. Roy, we don’t target any group because of its religion.
Chip Roy: Really?
Bryan Fair: I want to be clear about that.
Chip Roy: Really?
Bryan Fair: Yes, that’s exactly right. We target no group because of its religion. We target groups because they express statements and engage in activities that demean and vilify—
Chip Roy: So you brought up LGBTQ groups a second ago. You brought up LGBT groups a minute ago. So you think there’s a bunch of Islamic groups that are pro-LGBTQ? Is that the position of the SPLC? I just want to make sure the record reflects that.
Bryan Fair: Mr. Roy, as I said, we target no group and label no group because of its religion. We target groups and label groups because of what they say about others. And we have a constitutional right to do that, and we will continue to do that.
